GUIDE Program

Our Take Charge Foundation GUIDE (Giving Underserved Individuals Direction in Education) Program aims to inform high school students about educational opportunities, and gives them the tools and support they need to earn their high school diploma and achieve the dream of a secondary education. Upon successful completion of our program, selected GUIDE Scholars will receive full, four-year Florida Prepaid Scholarship to cover their college tuition.

To make this program a success, we have the incredible fortune to partner with Take Stock in Children Miami, which has over 20 years of experience in mentor programming and college preparation for at-risk students in Florida. This partnership enables us to provide GUIDE students will well-trained mentors, a College Success Coach and numerous college-readiness workshops, along with countless other resources and benefits. In return, GUIDE scholars will sign a contract with us, in which they commit to maintaining a minimum GPA, meeting regularly with their mentors, and graduating with a high school diploma.

Upon successful completion of this two-year program, GUIDE Scholars will be awarded a full, four-year scholarship to attend any of Florida’s prestigious State Universities. Partnering together enables the Battier Take Charge Foundation and Take Stock in Children Miami to expand their reach and positively impact more deserving students in Miami-Dade County.

Our inaugural class of 22 GUIDE Scholars are in their senior year at Miami Central High School. The day they were surprised with their acceptance into our program is one no one in attendance will soon forget. Take a look at how it went down (video courtesy of the Miami Heat):

Our friends at the Miami Herald also put together a great piece with photos and video from this amazing day, which you can find here!

We impress on our GUIDE students that earning a 2 or 4-year college degree is an attainable and meaningful step towards a brighter future. Our team at the Battier Take Charge Foundation and Take Stock in Children take an active role in encouraging the success of these incredible kids. Our first “crew of 22” are ready to get started, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for them!
